There are a few variants on the game of poker along with the most popular of all the poker games being Texas Holdem poker:
  1. Texas Holdem - in limit and no limit varieties is where two cards are dealt face down to each player followed by a number of betting rounds as five community cards are dealt face up on the table. A five card hard can be made up out of any of the seven available to each player.
  2. 7 Card Stud - each player is dealt two cards face down and one card face up (the door card. The 4th, 5th, and 6th cards are dealt face up to each player followed by the final 7th card face down.
  3. Omaha High - these poker games are very similar to texas holdem except that four holecards and must combine two holecards with three boardcards to make a hand.
  4. Single & Multiple Table Tournaments - the most exciting way of playing any of the above poker games. A single table tournament (STT) normally consists of 6 or 10 players who all start with equal chips and play over a period of time until everyone is knocked about except the winner. The blinds increase quite often in order to make this happen. A multiple player tournament (MTT) is similar but is a longer game where you can be moved between many tables in the same tournament until the players are narrowed down to the final table. You will see MTT's in the major tournaments such as World Series Poker.
You can often enter a tournament for a low amount of money and the more players you defeat, the larger the pot (prize) you can take home.
